Understanding the Role of Immersive Technologies for Improving Visitors’ Interactive Experience of Contemporary Crafts in Museum Exhibition

To bridge the gap between online and offline audience engagement, immersive technologies have increasingly been used to broaden audience access and engagement with museum exhibitions and to take into account the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it is necessary to investigate how the characteristics of the available immersive technologies may enhance visitors’ interactive experience for identifying the solution more suitable to meet the visitors’ expectations on specific museum exhibitions. With studying the forms and features of existing museum exhibitions on contemporary woven crafts in Australia, this research will discuss the main challenges concerning the immersive museum exhibition innovation. It will also indicate the potential for immersive technologies to engage visitors’ interactions on contemporary woven crafts in physical domains and investigate how the characteristics of the available immersive technologies may enhance visitors’ interactive experience for identifying the solution more suitable to meet the visitors’ expectations on contemporary woven craft exhibition. This paper will document an analysis of research into the relationship between immersive museum exhibition creation and visitors’ interactive experience and identify what approaches for measuring visitors’ interactions in the immersive exhibition scenarios might born of use.
